Game Play Instructions

How to Play

Play Pet Party Columns online for free. Pet Party Columns is a match 3 game where you try to match animal tiles vertically, horizontally or diagonally to score as many points as you can before the animal tiles make their way to the top of the screen.

Starting the Game

Click the green and white PLAY button at the bottom of the game’s welcome screen.
The game also has a sound control button in the upper right corner of the welcome screen.
Game Controls
- Desktop
  - Use the arrow keys to move and reorganize the animal pieces.
    - Use the left arrow to move the animal tiles left.
    - Use the right arrow key to move the animal tiles right.
    - Pres the up arrow key to change the order of the animals in the tile set to move each animal up one row & the top animal to the bottom.
    - Once you have the piece order correct and have the piece in the correct column you can press the down arrow key to drop the piece quickly.
      - Be forewarned that if you tap the down button only briefly you will not be able to move the piece again and it will fall faster until it comes to rest.
      - Touchscreen devices
        Use the on screen controls at the bottom of the screen.
        Left side: move tiles left, reorganize tiles.
        Right side: drop tiles, move tiles right.

        The right side of the screen offers buttons to end the game, control sound, and show the next up piece.
        The game score is shown in the bottom center of the screen.
        The playing field is 8 columns across and 13 rows high, with 104 cells in the game.
        If any animal tile remains in the top row it is game over.
        Game Play
        All animal tiles drop straight down unless you direct them right or left.
        The next up animal tile is shown in the right side of the screen & shows the order the animal tiles will appear in.
        This game does not reward speed, so rather than using the down key to drop a piece quickly you can spend time thinking of where the best location is for the next piece & what is the best order to have the animals appear in.
        Animal tile matches can be vertical, horizontal, or diagonal.
        If you can create a 2×2 box of the same animal type it makes it easy to make a connection in any direction.
        If you make multiple match types at the same time (e.g. an animal is part of a horizontal match and diagonal match at the same time then it will remove both runs of that animal from the playing field.
        Scoring
        Each animal tile you remove from the playing field is worth 3 points.
        If you remove a set of 3 tiles that is worth 9 points and a set of 4 tiles is worth 12 points.
        If removing one set of tiles creates another match of 3 or more in a row that subsequent match will automatically be removed from the playing field as well.
        Tips
        When you start the game try to keep the pieces toward the center of the playing field so you have optionality to lay pieces on either side to create horizontal or diagonal runs.
        As your pieces get higher you have less time to react, so it is important to plan out the next piece before the first piece lands if possible.
        When you get closer to the top it is important to try to keep the center few rows as low as you can so that you give yourself the ability to move pieces in either direction without getting stuck.
