How to Play

Play Brickout online for free. Brickout is a 20-stage ball bouncing block breaker game inspired by the original Breakout. Launch balls at a stack of bricks and keep directing them until all the bricks are gone. Take advantage of the power ups that fall from the brick stack. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

On the welcome screen, select the play button below the title of the game to begin.
Control the game’s audio using the music and game sound buttons in the bottom right.
Your web browser automatically saves your high score.

        Game Play
        
        Levels
        
        The game is divided into 20 levels.
        
        Finish one level before playing the next.
        
        Each time you start a level, you begin with a clear slate of 3 lives and no points. Your previous points are already saved.
        
        You cannot replay levels you’ve already cleared.
        
        Your browser only records your score if you finish a level.
        
        Your score is cumulative and depends on the number of times you’ve won.
        
        When you beat a level, your score is added to your total.
        
        Basic rules
        
        Take out all the bricks within 2 minutes.
        
        You must remove all the bricks to clear the level.
        
        See the number of bricks and lives you have left on the top left corner.
        
        You start the game with 3 lives.
        
        You can gain more lives as you progress through the game.
        
        If you have 2 or more balls in play, you will only lose a life if all the balls fall down.
        
        Make sure that you take out all the bricks within the time limit.
        
        You can extend your time by collecting clock powerups.
        
        See your remaining time using the clock on the top right corner.
        
        In later levels, you can use bombs to clear out large parts of the brick stack.
        
        Directions
        
        If the ball hits the paddle from the surface, it goes up.
        
        If the ball hits the side of the paddle, it goes on the opposite direction at an angle.
        
        Power ups
        
        Power ups randomly fall from the stack of bricks. Pick them up with your paddle.
        
        With the power ups, you can gain the following.
        
        Heart: Gain extra lives.
        
        Ball: Get an extra ball to play.
        
        Missile: Gain the ability to fire missiles at the bricks from your paddle.
        
        Plus: Lengthen your paddle.
        
        Minus: Shorten your paddle.
        
        Fireball: Double the strength of your ball.
        
        Lightning: Double the speed of the ball.
        
        Shield: Stop the ball from falling
        
        Clock: Gain extra time.
        
        Coins: Gain extra coins.
        
        Power ups are only activated once the ball is in play.
        
        If one ball has an active fireball or lightning power up, any other balls you sent out won’t have it.
        
        If you have 2 balls in play and collect a fireball or lightning power up, both balls will have it.
        
        Only one of either power up can be active at any time.
        
        Strategies and tips
        
        Let the ball do its own thing.
        
        See if you can bounce the ball into the top of the screen. This way, it will do most of the work by bouncing around.
        
        Multiple balls also work with the same principle. Let the other ball bounce around and focus most of your attention on keeping just one of them in play.
        
        This game is very generous with extra lives and time. Collect as many of them as you can if there’s no danger of dropping the ball.
        
        The shield serves as a paddle. This will come in handy if you have 2 balls at play.
        
        See if you can activate a fireball or lightning power up while you have 2 or more balls at play.
        
        This can help you clear out a brick stack faster.
        
        Fireballs are especially useful. They can go through several bricks in a single go.
        
        Taking out multiple bricks at once will generate more power ups at once, which can be especially advantageous.
        
        Be careful when using missile or fireball power ups.
        
        The particles flying around when taking out several bricks at once can make it hard to track the ball.
        
        In the confusion, you might end up losing the ball unless you have a shield.
        
        If you do lose the ball while having missiles, don’t launch the next one until you’ve run out of missiles.
        
        If you only have a few more bricks in one corner and still have lives, it might be better to let the ball fall and relaunch.
        
        Close to the end of the level, you have fewer options for power ups. The ball will likely be very slow.
        
        It’s better to relaunch somewhere closer to the remaining stack than to waste time.
        
        Unless your paddle is too long, do not take the minus power up.

        The game is suited for players who like games like Breakout.
