How to Play

Play Soul Hunter online for free. Soul Hunter is a 15-stage retro platforming level escape game. Help the Grim Reaper take the souls of other animals on each stage to activate the exit portal and pass through it. Play the game in speedrun mode to see how fast you can beat all 15 stages. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

Press PLAY on the welcome screen to start the game.
If you have played the game before a CONTINUE button under the PLAY button will allow you to pick up where you left off.
There is also a SPEEDRUN button available on the welcome screen.
Game Controls
- Desktop
  - Move left by using the left arrow key or the A key.
  - Move right by using the right arrow key or the D key.
  - Jump by using the up arrow key or the W key. This also allows you to ascend when in bat form.
  - As the bat move down by pressing the down arrow key or the S key.
  - Press the R key to restart the current level.
  - Press the spacebar to skip between cutscenes.
  - Touchscreen devices
    - Unfortunately this game was designed exclusively for computers with connected keyboards.
    - Controls & indicators
      - The upper left corner of the screen has a back arrow to return to the welcome screen.
      - The upper right corner of the screen has buttons for music and sound control.
      - The current level number is shown top center.
      - Across the bottom are buttons for more games & follow us.
      - Game Play
        Levels
        This game has 15 levels which are unlocked sequentially.
        If you make an error on a level you can restart it.
        This game offers an unlimited number of continues.
        You can’t go back and replay previously beat levels unless you restart the game over from the first level or play the game in speedrun mode.
        Play basics
        Your goal is to exit through the level portal.
        The portal is only unlocked when you capture the soul of all creatures on the screen (with the exception of the bunny on the final level).
        If you capture the bunny you will lose & will be forced to replay.
        You must assume the roles of characters in the correct order.
        Grim Reaper can move left or right, but can not jump. Other than capturing a soul & taking the form of a body Grim Reaper can not interact with the environment.
        The bat can fly, which can be helpful for pushing boxes into position or reaching higher up platforms.
        Mice can run side to side & can fit under small areas, but can not jump. If you need to convert a mouse into a bat you will need to drop a box on the bat first to move it down to ground level.
        Humans can walk side to side & can jump, but can not duck. Humans can only jump one square in height at a time.
        Boxes
        You can push boxes into position to:
        create a higher platform to allow a falling animal to catch on before making the rest of their jump
        reduce the needed jump height from 2 squares to 1
        move the level exit off platform onto a lower platform (by pushing it through the box)
        Boxes can land on another character.
        a box that lands on a bat will move the bat to the ground.
        a box that lands on a human will stay in place without impacting the human, though can create a temporary platform to jump across to other humans on higher platforms before collecting the lower human.
        Target Audience
        The game is suited for players who like room escape platformer games.
        While the game has Grim Reaper in it, mentions souls, and has a bright red screen between stages, it does not show any blood or gore when you shape shift.
