How to Play

Play Dark Time Mahjong online for free. Dark Time Mahjong is a 49-stage Mahjong Solitaire game where you pair off identical matching stones to remove them from the board. Pocket watches can be matched without regard to color. The same holds true for wristwatches. Use the slow time, stop time, and time counter stones to extend your game and boost your score. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

Select the Play button on the welcome screen to start the game.
Under the Play button are buttons for how to play Help, High Scores, and More Games.
The lower left corner of the welcome screen has a language select dropdown.
The lower right corner of the welcome screen has buttons for social media sharing and reading game developer information.
Game Controls
- Desktop
  - Use your mouse left click button to select an open stone & then select another identical open stone to remove the pair from the stack.
  - Touchscreen devices
    - Tap the screen with a finger to select an open stone & then select another identical open stone to remove the pair from the stack.
    - Controls & indicators
      - The game controls are along the left and right sides of the screen.
        In the lower left there are buttons for shifting to full screen mode, controlling game sound, and controlling game music.
        In the upper right the game shows your current level number, cumulative game score, and remaining level timer.
        In the lower right there are buttons for pausing the game, taking hints, and shuffling the remaining stones.
        Game Play
        Stone matching
        Identical
        Stone matches must be identical with the exception of pocket watches and watch tiles.
        Pocket watches can be matched with any other pocket watch tile.
        Watch tiles can be matched with any other watch tile.
        Free
        You can only match free or open stones.
        A stone is considered free if there is no stone on top of it & at least one side (left or right) is does not have any adjacent stones.
        This game shows free stones in a lighter white background color while stones that are not open have more of a gray background color.
        Autoshuffle
        If there are no valid matching pairs the game automatically shuffles the remaining stone.
        The above means there is always at least one valid matching pair available at all times.
        Automated shuffles do not cost you point.
        Levels
        This game has 49 levels which are unlocked sequentially.
        You can’t go back and replay previously beat levels without starting the game again on the first level.
        Stones
        The first stage has 144 stones, or 72 stone pairs on it.
        Stop time stones do not impact the remaining play time clock, but stop the clocks on time counter stones.
        Slow time stones slow the remaining level time for 20 seconds.
        Time counter stones add their time to your remaining play time when you pair them.
        For example, if you match a pair of stones with 89 on them it adds 178 (89+89) seconds to your play time.
        To maximize your game score try to pair up the time counters early in the game as if you match them when they get to zero you get no extra time, but matching them at 90 adds 180 seconds to your play time, which is worth 5,400 points.
        Time
        The first stage gives you 6:59 to beat it.
        This time limit applies to the first few levels.
        The level timer slowly decreases as you progress through the game.
        For example, on the third level you get 6:55.
        Adding time
        When you match a pair of time counter stones the time shown on each stone is added to your remaining level play time limit for the current stage.
        If the timer reaches zero you lose the level.
        If you lose the level you can try again or end game.
        This game offers unlimited continues which allow you to replay the current level.
        If you press the end game button it allows you to submit your score, but selecting the end game button erases your gameplay progress.
        Scoring
        Your game score is cumulative across levels.
        Scoring points
        Each stone pair you match is worth 95 points.
        Each second you have remaining when you beat a level is worth 30 points.
        Spending points
        Hints cost 100 points.
        Manual shuffles cost 500 points.
        Target Audience
        The game is suited for players who like Mahjong Solitaire tile match games.
        The game has no adult themed content.
